Our Story

A Soldiers Voice was born from the firsthand experience of our very own founder Cassandra McBurrough. Her mental health took a turn upon returning home from Afghanistan. An unpleasant encounter with medication greatly affected her mental health. The woman that was once Cassandra had changed and would never be the same. Among everything she had, she lost what was most important: her voice. Countless doctors’ visits and evaluations didn’t change the fact the facts in her mind.

After coming to accept the diagnosis, and failing to get the assistance needed from doctors, she chose to educate herself. Finding resources and people to have open discussions wasn’t an easy path but she ultimately discovered tools to help her in her journey and decided to pay it forward. We do what we do at A Soldiers Voice because there may be others on the same mental health journey. We want to make accessible what was once difficult to find.
